Online News Writing Competition

The Global Indian Council (GIC), a US-based nonprofit network organization of the indian diaspora, in association with the Indo American Press Club (IAPC), is organizing a Global Online News Writing Contest 2026 to promote ethical journalism, critical thinking, and original storytelling among writers worldwide.

Attractive cash prizes have been announced for the winners. The first prize winner will receive Rs.50,001 ($450), followed by Rs.30,001 ($350) for second place and Rs.10,001 ($150) for third place. In addition to cash awards, the winning articles will be published in the IAPC Newsletter and other prominent media platforms, offering participants valuable exposure. All participants will also receive digital participation certificates.

General Guidelines

  • 🎥 Strict Camera Policy: To ensure transparency and fairness, all participants MUST keep their camera turned ON for the entire duration of the competition.
  • Languages: English, Hindi, or Malayalam.
  • Word Limit: 500–800 words.
  • Time Limit: 45–60 minutes for "on-the-spot" writing.
  • Eligibility: Open to anyone aged 15 and above, globally.

Contest Format

  • The Briefing: Participants will watch a short video of an incident, followed by an explanation and specific instructions.
  • Writing Phase: Participants must write a news article based strictly on the video provided.
  • Methods: You may type directly into the provided online link or write by hand on paper.

Submission & Integrity

  • No AI Tools: All entries must be original. The use of AI-generated content or external assistance is strictly prohibited.
  • Handwritten Entries: Must be scanned or photographed clearly.
  • Live Submission: All files (Typed or Scanned) must be submitted via the Online Portal or WhatsApp while still connected to the Zoom call.
  • Final Deadline: Submissions will not be accepted once a participant disconnects from the Zoom session.
